Jenetta de Konink

Jenetta de Konink (1958) tells a personal story but then reduced to the core that it gives the painting a universal character. De Konink often combines oil and embroidery in her work. The nice thing about the glued pieces of embroidery is that they give a lightness, playful and moving so that the gravity of the painted figures almost merge with this lightness

Figuration is essential as a starting point in the work of de Konink. It starts in the studio where she herself acts as a model. It is not known or it was conceived which posture she will adopt, it all happens in the 10 seconds that the shutter gives her. The first picture is always the best.

In Jenetta’s work we often see a figure several times on her canvases. Because of the repetitive nature of the images, she is able to approach each canvas in a completely organic way without jeopardizing the series’ story line.
