25 March 2013 – Linda Nieuwstad – Tiny

24-07-2016

The flower arrangements by Linda Nieuwstad are of a grotesque size. Dandelions grow above your head and the flowers of a fairy tale-like giant bouquet reach up to the ceiling. Whether as weeds or a floral extravagance, the pieces take up a huge amount of space and give you a sense of what it would be like to be tiny.

As tempting as it may seem to haul away one of these gigantic flowers and place it in your living room, these flower arrangements are simply too large for the average home. Without violating the Thumbelina effect, we’ve found a way around this by creating disproportionate vases with flowers. This is once again, as has nearly become customary, an example of new work resulting from collaboration with the artist. Hopefully the vases will be ready just in time to add lustre to the opening.

The urge to magnify objects was born in Linda at a young age, just as Bert Teunissen’s quest for daylight arose from his childhood memories. So each of the gallery floors currently features work by two artists whose works of art are based on something they have carried with them their entire lives and will most likely continue to pursue.
