“WONDERWALL”

Jan van der Ploeg’s “WONDERWALL”, 2011 is on display on the top floor of the gallery. This dynamic work of wall art consists of 56 cubes and measures 300 x 1050 x 75 cm. The wall itself can take on different forms, enabling the artist to choose a different form in future displays. This architectural concept is new to Van der Ploeg’s oeuvre and offers a unique opportunity to transform a ‘wall painting’ over and over again.

On the second floor of the gallery, in addition to his autonomous work, Van der Ploeg also has enormous red-and-white offset posters covering a number of walls. He exhibited a similar installation earlier this year in Chasse sur Rhône, Rhône-Alpes, in France.

Donald Judd & Jan van der Ploeg

In addition to these projects, Jan van der Ploeg has also created a floor installation which, out of respect for Donald Judd, draws its inspiration from Judd’s colour palette.

What makes this work of art so unique is that, although it is undeniably the work of Jan van der Ploeg, visitors can also clearly recognise Judd’s colour scheme in the work. As a result, this architectural concept clearly shows how Donald Judd continues to inspire future generations of artists with his work. A few early examples of Judd’s furniture pieces are also on display.
