I was visiting Martin and Joke thirty years ago, to deliver the tea service they had bought from Jeanine. Martin was a listener who wanted to understand the world and I was a talker. The former is never irritating, the latter sometimes is. And Martin understood the world. He made the most beautiful designs and wherever possible collected even more beautiful art. I have always stayed in touch with Joke and Martin.
A few months ago, I was asked by SPECTRUM to join forces with a number of renowned designers to create a new design from one of Martin’s designs. I took an iconic idea and enlarged it, just like Martin himself later made much more monumental works than in the beginning. It has become a true Martin Visser-Piet Hein Eek chair, that will probably go into production and the prototype can now be seen in our showroom!
