Obviously father and mother Kamagurka did not decide to name their son Kamagurka. Which sets you thinking: “Where does a name like that come from?” If he is not the son of father and mother Kamagurka, then who is he? Creative people are often defined by what they do. So Kamagurka is an artist, a stand-up comedian, a writer, a wine taster: he does everything, so he is everything. But is that possible, being everything? It’s fair to say that everything he does is completely absurd, so he’s an absurdist. The spelling checker has not turned the word red on my screen, so it does exist: “HE IS AN ABSURDIST”. However, he is an absurdist without any Dutch coarseness, which makes him possibly even nicer (I hesitated to say the nicest, not wanting to exaggerate, but it’s true).
We did discover that there’s one thing he can’t do, or at least he claims he can’t do: carpentry. So we used carpentry to put together a ‘multi-fruit tree’ for him, and Dirk Vander Kooij printed the fruit in 3D. You might think you’ve gone to heaven: a tree on which all sorts of fruit grows together, but in fact it’s just in Eindhoven on 23 November. A show, the introduction of a multi-fruit tree, the opening of an exhibition with 11 paintings and wine-tasting to celebrate the book ‘Waanzin en Wijnzin’….. and all this created by Kamagurka. And don’t worry: after you’ve spent this wonderful evening, you will still be none the wiser about life.
