Communication is always difficult. More often than not, you discover afterwards that a one-on-one conversation has resulted in two different truths. Let alone when you try to reach a large group of people.

I was standing in the lift at our place, looking at two Dutch Design Week posters. One announces DDW, while the other features the words “Longest Table Dinner” in large letters. The DDW poster reads “Designer Exhibition at Piet Hein Eek”. That is the official DDW poster, and it fails to mention that, besides the Designer Exhibition, we also turn the entire showroom upside down to present new designs. As we do every year, we change everything around to make visiting us a celebration in itself. Most of the studios also put on fantastic presentations, and many friends of our shop and gallery come to exhibit their work. Our own team will be taking care of you at Green Restaurant, Merlijn Amaro will once again be in charge of Grand Café, as in previous years, and Min and Giulio will be looking after DAKBAR. A DDW like this may seem quite natural, but the energy that comes together is almost impossible to comprehend.

Then there is the second poster. Ever since the very first edition we organised with Sergio Herman, the Longest Table Dinner has guaranteed us an incomparable, unforgettable and fantastic evening. However, I have now realised that for people who have never attended, the words “Longest Table Dinner” may not mean anything at all. The poster communicates with those who already know and understand what it is, but not with those who have yet to discover it. And those are precisely the people we want to tempt into joining us for a fantastic opening night of DDW. There are not three but four courses, accompanied by live music from an era when music was still written and performed for occasions like these. The only difference is that, at our event, it all takes place on and across the table. Afterwards, DJ Rick Vintges takes over. He once happened to ultimately lead everyone to dance on the table by the end of the night.

Anyway, we still have tickets available for the Longest Table Dinner!
