This autumn the sedum roof will be planted and the solar panels are already in place. Despite the mainly black appearance of the houses at this moment, the process of making the houses green has really started now. In a few seasons we will have another photoshoot where the plants will be taking over the building.

The green houses are the two smaller brothers (or sisters?) of the RAG building, with their roof terraces facing the south and build in an industrial way. Living is situated on the first floor, adjacent to the roof terrace and underneath the steel structure, just like in the RAG building. The big, square, freely divisible room is very light because the windows follow the rhythm of the sun. The steel structure is visible everywhere and forms, together with the concrete floors and steel roof panels, the industrial fundament of the interior.

For more information about this project and other Eek en Dekkers projects you can visit our project page.

De Hedera is in the ground and the residents moved into the green houses! The most significant factor in Eek's career has been the creation of a world that embodies the entire process, from idea to consumer. This has proved to be an exceptional way of producing since it is quite rare to both design and produce furniture 'under the same roof' in countries with high labour costs. Each product is designed with a focus on the material, techniques and craftsmanship required to make it. In 2010, Piet Hein Eek moved his company from Geldrop to a former Philips factory in Eindhoven. The most important part of the company is the production facility (wood, metal, ceramics upholstery and cartonnage) which is located in the heart of the building. The transparency of the building gives visitors insight into the whole production process. The concept of offering a total experience starts with the showroom and the production processes but also includes a restaurant, an art gallery, rented studios, a chip shop, a hairdresser and from October 2020 there will also be a hotel. Eek has worked together with architect Iggie Dekkers since 2015, designing a range of houses and undertaking architectural redevelopments and other construction projects.
