Six sculptures will be on display for this exhibition, representing figures, both male and female, made up of fragments and incorporated into a brass and glass construction designed by Piet Hein Eek.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15130\" src=\"https:\/\/pietheineek.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Guido-Geelen-overview-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pietheineek.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Guido-Geelen-overview-3.jpg 700w, https:\/\/pietheineek.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Guido-Geelen-overview-3-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Carefully positioned and, in a number of instances, exhibited in their naked truth, each of these sculptures tells a wordless story. The butterflies form an imaginary shield around each of the figures and represent the butterfly population of each continent. One of Geelen&#8217;s goals with this series is to draw attention to the rapid vanishing of more and more species of butterflies in the world. This series has come into being over the course of the past six years.<\/p>\n<p>The models were first cast in moulds, which were then used to shape the clay. The resulting pieces were then pierced with innumerable holes with great precision. After these pieces were fired, a butterfly expert was brought in to find registered and unprotected butterfly species for each continent that together represent an up-to-date overview of the current butterfly population.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15132\" src=\"https:\/\/pietheineek.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Guido-Geelen-Christophe-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pietheineek.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Guido-Geelen-Christophe-4.jpg 600w, https:\/\/pietheineek.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Guido-Geelen-Christophe-4-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Piet Hein Eek, a designer with whom Guido Geelen collaborates on a regular basis, designed the structural element in the form of a brass and glass display case, an integral component of the pieces.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The exhibitions<br \/>\n<\/strong>\u2018The Prologue\u2019 and parallel solo exhibition of Guido Geelen\u2019s &#8216;New sculptures\u2019 will be on display from 23 January to Saturday, 26 March from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm.<\/p>\n<p>Location: Piet Hein Eek, Halvemaanstraat 30, 5651 BP Eindhoven.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Former Philips ceramics factory<br \/>\n<\/strong>Until 2001, magnets were produced in this former Philips factory for various Philips products. The concept of offering a total experience starts with the showroom and the production processes but also includes a restaurant, an art gallery, rented studios, a chip shop, a hairdresser and from October 2020 there will also be a hotel. Eek has worked together with architect Iggie Dekkers since 2015, designing a range of houses and undertaking architectural redevelopments and other construction projects.
