DESCRIPTION:We close the Storioni Festival at Piet Hein Eek in the evening with a final concert in the workshop. This concert is based on Picasso and Parisian musicians of his time. \n“The late evening concert begins with music from Igor Stravinsky’s neo-classical ballet Pulcinella\, a beautiful blend of graceful melodies by Pergolesi mixed with Stravinsky’s spicy flavour. Followed by songs by Paul Dessau\, a composer who is far too rarely heard. He emigrated to the US because of the Nazi regime\, but later became one of the GDR’s most important composers\, alongside Kurt Weill. Then one of those wonderful world-famous piano pieces by the French satirist Érik Satie\, Gymnopédies\, which would evoke visions of naked boy dancers in silhouettes on a Greek vase. Next\, a sad tribute to a deceased singer by Francis Poulenc\, his Élégie\, moving in its simplicity\, and full of hope and resignation. SUMMARY:Storioni Festival Klankverwanten: ‘Piet & Picasso in Spanje’
DESCRIPTION:The Storioni Festival continues in the evening in our workshop. With Piet & Picasso in Spain\, the Storioni Festival is set in Spanish atmospheres. \n“The concert opens with the famous 1914 Siete Canciones populares españolas (Seven Spanish Folk Songs) by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla. He described the consideration that guided him in composing as follows: ‘In my humble opinion\, in a folk song\, the spirit is more important than the letter. Rhythm\, key and melodic intervals are the main thing. The people confirm this by constantly varying the melodic line.’ Following this was one of the favourite encores among cellists\, Requiebros by the great Spanish cellist Gaspar Cassadó and dedicated to his famous fellow cellist Pablo Casals. The Spanish title means as much as ‘compliments’. Echoes of Andalusian gypsy music and flamenco guitar music resound in Joaquín Turina’s beautiful Piano Quartet. The originally Catalan song El Cant dels Ocells (The Song of the Birds) was adapted for cello by Pablo Casals. In protest against the Franco regime\, he opened every concert with this moving song. Today you will hear this ‘song of the birds’ in a special arrangement for piano trio and overtone singer! The concert closes with parts from Manuel de Falla’s El amor brujo (Love and Witchcraft)\, a macabre love story of a gypsy girl.” \nAfter this concert\, the ‘Storioni Café’ will take place in our Grand Café. DESCRIPTION:On Friday June 3 the musical Storioni Festival returns to Piet Hein Eek! Last year we welcomed them to our workshop. This year we are kicking off with a surprise concert of personal favourites of the musicians\, in the street of Piet Hein Eek at 17.00 hrs. You can enjoy a delicious fries from Friet van Piet Hein Eek. Alternatively\, you can attend only the evening concerts and dine first in the Lobby Restaurant from our menu. Make a reservation so you can be sure of a table!  \n“After dining\, we will first hear music by English composer Frank Bridge and Hungarian-British late romanticist Emánuel Moór\, then Beethoven’s heroic and revolutionary Third Symphony ‘Eroica’ here in a version for piano quartet. After an intermission in which various spaces within Piet Hein Eek’s complex can be admired\, you will hear music by the Finn Sebastian Fagerlund and the wonderful sextet from Richard Strauss’ opera Capriccio. To conclude\, you can listen to the Clarinettrio ‘pathétique’ by Michael Glinka\, the prophet of Russian music. On the back of the trio Glinka wrote “I have come to know love only through the pain it brings. Both spaces are located next to the main entrance and fully visible through large windows. We are sorry for the inconvenience!).  \nDe neo-klassieke\, Belgische pianist Guy Van Nueten bouwt al enkele decennia aan een veelzijdig oeuvre en heeft solo een heel eigen benadering van muziek componeren: als tegengif tegen de steeds hectischer wordende maatschappij. \nDe afgelopen decennia maakte hij naam als uitvoerder en/of arrangeur op albums van dEUS\, Zita Swoon\, Magnus\, DAAN en Admiral Freebee\, bracht hij met Tom Barman (dEUS) het album ‘Tom Barman en Guy Van Nueten Live’ uit en maakte hij muziek voor film\, dans en theater. Maar bovenal is hij eigenzinnig solo pianist die hedendaags klinkende muziek maakt met wortels in de klassieke muziek.  \nIn november verschijnt zijn nieuwe album ‘Contact’ (Sony Classical). Het lijkt steeds moeilijker om in het hier en nu te blijven.\n De kunst is om het werk zo traag mogelijk te spelen\, ga je daarin te ver dan verliest het alle samenhang en brokkelt het uit elkaar. Speel je het te snel dan wordt het vrij banaal.\n Heel bewust heb ik in de partituur geen enkele aanwijzing over tempo\, dynamiek of frasering gezet. Hoe het stuk uiteindelijk klinkt hangt af van ondermeer: de akoestiek van de ruimte\, m’n hartslag\, de klank van het instrument\, de aard van de dag\, het publiek…\n Ik merk dat mensen het leuk vinden dat ze niet weten wat de volgende noot gaat zijn. SUMMARY:TROMP @ Piet Hein Eek - Ramon Lormans
DESCRIPTION:The concerts in Piet Hein Eek’s wood workshop have become a tradition in the TROMP festival in the recent editions. This time with music written for the wooden keys of the marimba and for TROMP laureate Ramon Lormans. Since winning the third prize in the competition in 2006\, Ramon is a celebrated guest in the TROMP festival and in the international percussion field. He is known as a marimbas specialist\, is principal marimba teacher at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Rotterdam\, gives master classes all over the world and last year he was invited by world famous marimbist Keiko Abe for a joint tour through Japan. \n \nIn projects with s t a r g a z e and TEMKO\, Ramon is at the forefront of new music\, surrounded by a new generation of talented composers and artists. In the past few years he inspired them to write new repertoire for marimba\, with some of the pieces now being played by participants in the competition\, like Solo for marimbaby Aart Strootman and An Index of Woodby Anthony Fiumara. Ramon recorded an album in Muziekgebouw Eindhoven in which he performs the works written for him. DESCRIPTION:This event is part of DDW Music Festival: a multi-venue music festival during Dutch Design Week that includes performances by 70 emerging acts over 11 exciting venues throughout Eindhoven. Please click the following link for more info & tickets.  \nA unique opportunity to experience a live classical concert right in the middle of Piet Hein Eek’s world famous workshop. Or should we say factory. For a moment\, the loud machines shall be replaced by classical instruments and you can enjoy artists hand picked by one of Eindhoven’s most famous designers. \nWinterdagen \nA three piece neo-classical music project made out of pianist Mink Steekelenburg\, Martijn Eikenhout on guitar and Jaap Rovers on violin. These three guys will take you on a journey through expressive and minimal music that produces soft melancholic sounds. \nSomersault \nComposer Pim ten Have has used his love for strings to create this post-classical project he calls Somersault.
