Stichting Welzijn Edam

18-04-2016

A while ago, stichting Welzijn from Edam (by birthplace) came to ask me whether I could be of help in relation to the interior of a new building. The budget is not high, so we had to come up with a plan. As the foundation works a lot with volunteers, and the building and organisation act as a hub within the community, it seemed like a good idea to make my design together with a group of volunteers. Of course, this cannot happen without guidance.

After a lot of hassle they found someone. Floris Barends, an old childhood friend with whom I once travelled to France in the back of the car. He is now a ship carpenter and has made the first models using simple reclaimed planks, presumably from Koek, the local demolition firm where my father found wood for the rabbit hutch. There are still a few things to be done, but it would really be great if the whole interior were made by the people themselves – this process alone is a goal in its own right!
