December 2008 – Dordogne, new premises, product development

01-05-2016

This edition of our newsletter contains varied contents. A number of topics are reviewed and the first announcement is made on our efforts to find new premises from which we can continue our growth and achieve new goals.

Dordogne, France

The work on the holiday homes is progressing nicely. The roof of the mill is nearly completed and we have even begun with the interior woodwork. The goal is to be able to use the houses by the summer of 2009 and perhaps rent them out. Who knows, we might even make the deadline!

New premises

Since we have outgrown our current accommodations, which are also insufficiently representative, we have spent quite some time looking for a new location. It now appears that our quest has finally come to an end.  Not a moment passes by without our thinking about how we are going to accommodate our current activities in the new premises, but, just as important, what the possibilities will be to expand our activities. If we succeed, we will be able to realise our dreams and more at the new location.  We hope to have more certainty in January, when our biggest step ever – though a logical one – will be taken.

Product development

We are also developing a variety of products both for ourselves and for clients: a football game made of sheet metal, lamps made of old tie fabrics, stairs, show windows for the Glass Museum, the scenery for the New Year’s act by Youp van ’t Hek and much, much more.

All of these activities will be carried out by our team without too much effort. We have been able to accomplish this in spite of the continuous growth we are experiencing; the financial crisis does not appear to have put a spanner in the works yet! In itself, that is pretty much what we expected, since we have transparent products, i.e. it is clear by whom, where and how our products are made and, above all, the fact that they are reasonably priced.

Our prices are based on a fixed calculation method and the surcharges are relatively low, which has led to frequent discussions lately.A number of our dealers have urged us to create unique pieces, as do other designers, and to subsequently sell them at a very high (beyond proportional) price. Fortunately this opportunism appears to have faded. Now we can only hope that our sales will continue at the same rate. November was actually our best month ever!
